Night
2024, 4-piece series of handwoven Jacquard fabric, Polyester and wool, interwoven with silver, 160 x 120 cm each
In digital photography, if an underexposed subject receives too little light, undefined areas emerge. These gaps are filled with red, green and blue pixels, that blend into the darkness and create noise. The result is a black that is perhaps reminiscent of the black we can see with our eyes closed.
This dark yet colourful noise formed the starting point for translating the digital pixels into woven binding point, resulting in a series of woven images that evoke the sensory experience of night, where it takes a moment for the eyes to adjust to the darkness.
